Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant

The gross-out dial is turned up to 11 in this hilarious debut feature from Kiwi duo Thunderlips. The truth-in-advertising title says it all. Sundance 2026.

What is millennial lazybones Mary (Hannah Lynch, Petrol) to do when one of the weirdest erotic encounters you’ll ever see leaves her expecting the patter of little human-alien feet in 72 hours? That’s just the start of a cheerfully outrageous tale that oozes all manner of slimy, jiggly alien goo and radiates the delicious dry wit New Zealanders do best. Surrounded by her alarmingly uninhibited mum, a nerdy semi-extra-terrestrial dad-to-be, and his uptight mother (Jackie Van Beek, Nude Tuesday, SFF 2022), Mary’s road to motherhood is a horror-comedy riot with a sharply satirical eye and a surprisingly big heart. If ever a film was – bad pun intended – ‘born’ to be in FMO, it’s this Kiwi cracker.

A bold, messy, and deeply felt piece of genre filmmaking that refuses to compromise.
